研究领域:

我的研究兴趣主要集中在早期四足类的分类、演化以及相关的地层、古生态、古地理问题;从时代来说重点是二叠、三叠纪,从门类来说主要是非哺乳类的下孔类以及海生爬行动物。此外对系统学的理论、方法及实践也有兴趣。近二十年来主持、参加过国内外多地的地层古生物考察以及化石发掘。野外遍及中国二叠、三叠系陆相地层分布的地方,目前集中在准噶尔盆地、鄂尔多斯盆地。我指导学生研究门类龟鳖类、鳄类、锯齿龙类、蛇类、二齿兽类。

1999 年开始共发表学术专著1部(第二作者),学术论文70多篇(章)。长期坚持科普宣传,在国内外科普杂志发表30多篇文章,参与创作《史前生物历程》、《热河生物群》、《The Jehol Biota: the Emergence of Feathered Dinosaurs, Beaked Birds and Flowering Plants》;翻译BBC的《与恐龙同行》;为《九龙之死》作科学顾问;参与“科学队长”音频节目《生命是怎样出现的》。
